Crash in Blount County Leaves Two Dead

Authorities are reporting that a crash on Sunday evening has left two dead and one injured. According to Alabama State Troopers, the victims were a 79-year-old Oneonta man and a 3-year-old boy. The crash occurred on Alabama 79 on the 24000 block in the Dallas community. The victim was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck, which crashed head-on with a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 39-year-old female. Many first responders arrived at the scene from a variety of locations, including the Blount County Sherriff’s Office, Blount EMS, Dallas-Selfville Fire, Locust Fork Fire, Alabama State Troopers, and LifeSaver Helicopter, immediately shutting down the roadway as investigation and aid began.

Information initially reported to law enforcement stated that the crash resulted in three injured people, two of which were unconscious. One victim, 79, was pronounced dead on the scene while another victim, a 3-year-old boy, was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. The third victim, female, 39, was airlifted to a nearby hospital for medical attention, though the severity of her injuries were not reported.

Investigation is still ongoing.

Every year, over 40,000 people, including 1,600 children are killed in fatal automobile accidents. It’s a number that, tragically, has steadily and consistently risen over the years. Studies conducted by many different associations suggest that the number of people killed each year shows no sign of slowing or dropping anytime soon. Tragically, many accidents could be avoided. When they’re not, devastation ensues.

The loss of a loved one can leave families emotionally and financially devastated having to reconcile with the permanent loss and, often, financial ruin due to high funeral costs.
