Jefferson County was saddened by the news of a serious motor vehicle accident last week at the 6700 block of Alabama 79. Police responders arrived just before 10 p.m. to find an 18-year-old male lying by the side of the road. Sadly, the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Once deputies arrived, the male had serious injuries. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, and police began investigating for clues into the hit-and-run. While the investigation is ongoing, evidence points to the suspect’s vehicle being a white Mercedes-Benz C Class sedan.
If you or a loved one has recently been hurt in a motor vehicle accident, then you will likely be contacted by your insurance company. If the accident was work related, then your employer may also reach out to you. Naturally, people assume that the insurance companies or employers are genuinely concerned about your health and well-being, but this is rarely the case. Insurance companies will attempt to contact you to gather information that they can later use against you. For example, when an insurance agent asks you how you’re feeling and you respond that you are much better, then they could potentially use that statement in court to justify a reduced payout. As unfair as this practice may seem, it is perfectly legal.
This tactic is far from the only strategy insurance companies will try to reduce the amount of compensation you collect. It’s extremely important to retain your own private lawyer that has an in-depth understanding of personal injury cases. Attorney Daniel Chambers has dedicated a major portion of his law practice to cases involving personal injuries resulting from motor vehicle crashes.
